The weather. Oh the weather. How it can affect us! It was cold and rainy. Again. Galicia is alot like Wahington- it's beauty comes from the marine climate. In fact, we notice so many similar plants- even camellias and rhododendrons.
The day was long and we were tired. Also, we're so close now to Santiago that
thoughts of, "what's next?" were cropping up and suddenly the thought of going back to walk from Pamplona to Burgos seemed like a drag. Just a down day where nothing made much sense.
But on we go. Today the weather is much the same. The walk was beautiful. We stopped twice; once for a bocadillo and then for a salad. Our pace was quicker today too. Up and down with gentle hills and Galician villages. A man stopped to chat with us- a proud Galician. He shared how Galicia produces 60% of the milk for Spain, fruit, energy from the ...... interrupt this story:
We're sitting in a cafe because our room has no Internet and it smells moldy. Watching soccer, staying warm and having a glass of wine and the server just walked by with a piece of bread with cheese tomato and anchovy. Just offered. And coming around again.
Anyway energy from the many rivers and also wind. So so proud . And of the cheese . And vino tinto that he said is exported to the US and Japan as well. It's so much fun to have these exchanges.
I walked today for my youngest grand-daughters today. For Natalie as she is a mermaid in her dance recital and for Hazel who is having her birthday at Carkeek. Hopefully the rain gods are busy here in Galicia and leaving Seattle dry.
I cannot make suffering go away. I cannot stop the violence. People walk in pain, physical and emotional. Some do. Sometimes I struggle as I realize how this moment for me, for us is so life affirming. While others, some so close to me, have such trauma and pain. It brings tears.
In yoga, we talk of falling off the mat. It happens to me oh so often. So now I'll fall off the Camino. That's the challenge .
But for now, Santiago is only 3 days away. And I have trust.
And now some chicken pieces came our way. It's time to go have dinner!!
The photo of the pilgrims pulling the cart with the dog: the sign says Lisbon to Jerusalem. Think of that!!
