Sipping coffee this morning after a 10 hour sleep. Short day today - only 3 or 4 miles I think. Late start. Nice. Necessary after yesterday.
Woke up this morning thinking about all the wrongs and horrors in the world. Read news from home. Good news mostly. Feeling a little longing. A Little up in the air. Walking will shift this. It is so grounding. Get it?
Walk, eat, sleep. Think there's a bestseller there?
But not before coffee.
CC's still in the room. The sun is making an appearance.
Here we are at 4:15 at our day's destination. Who would have thought that a 7 mile day would feel quite easy?
We have arrived in summer. The area we are in now - Bieros - is quite temperate. It's a fruit and vegetable growing region. As we walk, we watch people tilling, planting, watering. There are small farms here, not like the vast fields of crops we saw in the Meseta.
We've also arrived in wine country. It appears more economically sound. You can see the beauty in the photos Craig took today. The wine tastes better here. We both agree.
Pote de berciano- vegetable soup. This was the first course for dinner tonight. I must try to find a recipe.
Our server at the Meson Apostle was laughing with us tonight at how early peregrinos eat dinber. Dinner here starts at 10. And then the entertainment comedy hour begins at midnight. Tomorrow is Sunday. That day of rest. He talked to us about how the "Meseta is Boring". We have moved into a much more vibrant part of Spain with towns of 5,000 to 50,000 rather than the Meseta's ghost towns of 50. We're glad we had the chance to cross it. It allowed much reflection time and helped us adjust to the meditative quality of walking without distraction.
And in a day or two we shall be in Galicia!
