April 30 Fromista to Carrion de Los Condes. 12.7 miles

Rain to start
Then typical Seattle weather
Met Helen from Toronto and we walked along and talked for a while. She left her husband and 2 teenage children to walk. She's been walking for two weeks having started in the mountains of the Pyrenees in the Basque Country.
There are many single women walking alone here. The route feels/is so so safe. And there are always I formal groupings that come and go. Helen says that she has to make sure that she finds solitary time or she could be with people all the time. I fantasize about people meeting their soul mates while on the Camino. Craig comments that it's more likely to be an affair !! I always appreciate him bringing me back to reality!

Out talk with Helen affirmed our need to adjust our eating habits. i describe this in tomorrow's post.

Our big existential question today is the dilemma of our pace- who is correct? I think that there are pilgrims slower than us and we just never see them because they don't catch up. Craig thinks that it can't be that the only slow people are behind us and there are no slow people who we just have never passed. Hmmm

The other dilemma is who our walking poles are labeled left and right. What's the difference?

Today we decided our packs hold excess stuff. We're going to assess what to send onto Santiago when we arrive at our room in the Monastery of Santa Clara.
A highlight today was the 12tg century church that a man from town told us was the most beautiful on the Camino. Could be correct. The New Zealand women we met yesterday on the trail were in the church with us. it took us a while to all recall this as we were do hunkered down in our rsin gear yeaterday; no one was recognizable.

We had dinner with Svend from Denmark, learning that his wife died 2 years ago. His son makes parts for search and rescue in Seattle. There's always a connection. I wonder if we'll meet him again on the way to Santiago.

Anecdote. We heard that the Irish used to send criminals to walk the Camino as a sentence. Some rich criminals would have someone walk for them. Helen told us this. She's a probation officer in Toronto. We thought she might be able to write a grant and continue this practice.

Thankful for bed tonight. Advil and asleep by 9.
