May 17 Sarria to Portomarin. 16 miles , 37,724 steps

Rain. Lots of rain. Walking down muddy
cow paths.  Stepping in cowpies. Passing fields of greens, cows, sheep, goats. Deep in the heart of Galicia.  Now the Camino is crowded. Many people have started in Sarria to complete the last 100 kilometers and earn their certificate . Many young people now join the ranks. Colleges must be out for the summer.

The " Buen Caminos" feel less sincere. There is a sense of "putting up with the strangers" because they are literally our livelihood.  Yet, we try not to judge. Everyone has their own way.  We walked with the couple from Kansas City today and with their companion, Kate. She started in St. Jean Pied a Port but developed foot issues along the way and now she ships her pack. Everyone makes the adjustments needed.

Raining for the next few days. It's alot like Washington here.  We're only 100 miles from the ocean.

Still we walk.  Good pilgrim dinner tonight and I wish I didn't like the Torta de Santiago so well.

Collapsed on the bed for several hours when we got here. How can taking a warm shower and a nap feel soooo good?

Are we crazy?
